How to Choose a Womens Bible Study

By August 29, 2009Misc

The fact that you’re reading this post shows you have an interest in participating in a Bible study, that’s a great beginning! Making the decision to learn scripture is the first step, now you need to decide what type of Bible study format you’ll join.

There are three basic Bible study formats: Small Group, Large Group and Independent Study.

Home Study (Small Group)

  • One or two hostesses
  • Weekly set schedule
  • Will watch DVD from Leaders Kit
  • Single workbook study, use same workbook as church study, or select your own workbook
  • Meets at the same time each week, may rotate homes
  • Usually lasts 6-8 weeks, depending on length of workbook
  • More social and intimate conversations

Church Study (Large Group)

  • Hosted by Womens Ministry at a church
  • Weekly set schedule
  • One facilitator, one or more group leaders
  • May watch DVD lesson or live teaching from workbook author
  • May have one study, or the option to select from 2-3 different studies
  • Meets at the same time and location each week
  • Usually lasts 6-8 weeks, depending on length of workbook
  • Opportunity to make new Christian friends

Online Study (Independent Study)

  • Hosted by blogger
  • Flexible schedule
  • One facilitator, one or more blog authors
  • Single workbook study, DVD  lessons optional  (available from publisher)
  • Focus on one workbook study
  • Meets anytime you want to visit the blog
  • Repeats every 6-8 weeks with a new study
  • Independent study with guided lessons
  • Interactive comment discussions with video clips and opinion polls

It’s best if you select a study that is most convenient for you. Not making time for yourself and time for God is spiritually unhealthy. If you feel isolated living in a new community, attending a new school or being a stay-at-home mom, then try a small group study. If you’re energized by classroom/auditorium settings and worship music, then the church study may be right for you.

If you’re too busy for either, or your schedule is chaotic and unpredictable, then start with an online independent study. Getting into the study is the first step in getting closer to God. Finding a study that works for you is essential to your spiritual growth.

We’d like to hear your objections, excuses and reasons for not participating in a Bible study. Why have you avoided Bible study? Have you tried a Bible study and dropped out? What keeps you from spending time with your Bible? Please reply with a comment!

I’m a little bit isolated and can’t readily get out and about to join local bible study groups. I think this is a great way for me to quench my thirst for a bible study and still get together, in a way, with women of like mind.

I would like to feel comfortable enough to join a bible study group. I do have issues with social anxiety so the internet bible study will give me the chance to learn in the comfort of my own home.

  • I am new to Bible study so I am glad to have a blog like this to help guide me in learning about God through His word. Looking forward to beginning the study and interacting with the other women.

I love that there are so many options for Bible Study.

I look forward to the start of Pursuing More of Jesus! I can’t wait to read what the other ladies are getting out of the study. This is a great way to study.

I also love my small group. I love the hugs and the learning!

My prayers for every woman in the world is to take the time to be close to the Lord. You owe it to yourself and you owe it to God. When you allow yourself to grow in the Lord you make your own life better!

I hope you all join us for this study!! Get your books and let us learn more of our saviors plan for us.
