Questions and Answers for the Gideon Summer Bible Study

By June 10, 2013Gideon

We’re excited to begin our 5th summer study at the Womens Bible Cafe. We’re expecting more than 500 women for the Gideon online Bible study. As a reminder, you will need the book Gideon by Priscilla Shirer in order to participate. The video sessions are optional due to the cost. Both are available at

faqWith so many women participating in the study, we often receive the exact same questions. So here’s a summary of the most common questions we receive before starting  an online Bible study:

What if my book has not arrived yet?

You can download the first week from the Gideon book when you click “View a Sample” from Lifeway- click here

The Lifeway website is not working!

This usually happens the first day of a Beth Moore summer study because too many women are visiting the Lifeway site at the same time. Go back later in the day and it will work correctly.

What Bible translation should I use?

If you look at the first inside page of your Gideon workbook, with copyright information, you’ll see that the author Priscilla Shirer is using the New American Standard Bible for this study and also the Holman Christian Standard Bible. We recommend using an online Bible, such as or if you’d like to use the same translation as the book author.

Do we need to answer the questions Beth Moore asked?

Yes, if you subscribed to the email updates from Beth Moore then you will get an email this week with the questions. Your small group leader will also post the questions in your Facebook group.

What should I be reading in the book?

Each week you’ll read a lesson at home, five days a week. To see the reading schedule, click here

When and where do the small groups meet?

To see the schedule of small groups- click here

Who is my small group leader?

She will introduce herself to the group as soon as all the women have joined the study. You will have a leader and also a coleader, both are there to facilitate the discussion.

Can I attend more than one small group?

Yes, you can attend as many small groups as you like, however each group is answering the same discussion questions. If you miss a group on Tuesday, feel free to attend one on another day of the week.

Do I have to be in a small group?

No, small groups are optional.

What time and where do we meet?

We meet every day of the week, morning and night. To see the schedule click here.

Do I have to be in the Facebook group?

No, the Facebook group is optional.

Can my friends see what I post in the Facebook group?

No, the settings for the Facebook group are private. The comments will appear in your timeline and only you will see it. Remember though, if you have a friend in the chatroom, she will see what you post.

Which website should I visit during the Summer Bible Study, yours or Beth Moore’s?

Both. Beth will update every 2 weeks, and we update once a week. We will provide links to Beth’s blog and encourage you to visit and read her updates.

Where do I answer group questions?

Each week we post discussion questions on our website. You can answer the questions here or join us on Facebook for a live discussion via the small groups.

Do I need to participate in the group discussions?

It is beneficial to your study and spiritual growth when you participate. The enemy will convince you that your words don’t matter. We know from leading several online Bible studies that those women who participate in group discussions are the ones who have a deeper relationship with God. Often the women who do not participate in the discussions or small groups are the women most likely to drop out out and not complete the study. Make the choice to participate…it’s for your benefit.

Where are the videos?

The videos are available for purchase from We do not show them here as it would violate copyright laws and the work of the authors. We are not affiliated with Lifeway, Beth Moore or Priscilla Shirer. Please contact Lifeway if you have questions about their products or download issues.

Where can I find the answers to the video sessions?

Look in your workbook on page 189.

Do I need the book to participate?

Yes, it is required for this study.

What if I need to go on vacation during this study?

Bring your book and Bible with you.

Do you have scholarships?

Not for the summer Bible study.

What if I fall behind in my reading?

Pray and ask yourself why you fell behind. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you where your heart is in relation to learning scripture. You are responsible for your own spiritual growth and need to become a self-feeder, craving the Word of God. Don’t choose an online Bible study just because no one is watching you. God sees..and He knows your heart.

What if I have spiritual warfare while trying to do this Bible study?

You will have spiritual warfare, it’s almost guaranteed. As you draw closer to the LORD, Satan will do his best to put a wedge between you and your study. We know that scripture is armor against the enemy…so he will distract, discourage and deceive you during this study. We encourage you to pray with your small groups and ask others to intercede. Post a prayer request on our Prayer Wall and we have a team of women who will be praying for you.

How do I get a photo next to my name when I post a comment?

Go to and set a photo for your email address, it’s free.

I’m sure you will have more questions…so feel free to ask.

Welcome to online Bible study!
