The Mercy Prayer: The One Prayer Jesus Always Answers
by Robert Gelinas

Robert Gelinas’s book, The Mercy Prayer: The One Prayer Jesus Always Answers, studies what some call “The Jesus Prayer,” which is simply stated as “Lord, have mercy.”  In this short and easy read, Gelinas argues that this plea for mercy is the most common prayer in the Bible and one that Jesus always answers.  The book impressed both my mind and heart with the fresh reminder that we are indeed loved by a merciful God.mercyprayer

As many times as I’ve read through Scripture, and as familiar as each of the Biblical accounts and verses Gelinas studies are, I never considered how powerful and prominent the Mercy Prayer really is in the Bible.  He amazed me by showing the depth of God’s heart for mercy and then even challenges readers to love mercy themselves–both to receive it and give it.

Gelinas also draws from more liturgical traditions, even discussing some of the practices of Eastern Orthodox Christianity and how we can learn from its appeals to God’s mercy.  Some of his suggestions can be implemented in your prayer and devotional life to draw you even closer to the heart of God, to worship Him and to appeal to Him for mercy for yourself or others.  It’s not really just your prayer life that can be impacted by this little book, though, but really your overall understanding of God Himself.

I received this book free from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
