Jeremiah Online Bible Study

Welcome to online Bible study at the Womens Bible Cafe! We’re discussing week four from the book Jeremiah, Daring to Hope in an Unstable World by Melissa Spoelstra. This week we studied “Staying Spiritually Sensitive: Heart Issues” and our lessons included:

  • Heart Evaluation
  • Behavior Modification vs. Heart Change
  • Where Do Broken Hearts Go?
  • Guard Your Heart
  • With All Your Heart

Maybe you felt this was a difficult week, as you examined your own heart and faced a spiritual heart surgery? Melissa Spoelstra asked us to identify attitudes, sins and behaviors that clog our hearts. She challenged us to write “be careful” statements. She advised us to mark off a checklist of heart symptoms, positive and negative, and apply those words to our relationships. While the first day of study was challenging, it opened our eyes to places in our lives where we need change. Melissa’s offered a three-step solution: Know It, Share It, Own It.

We also learned about stone hearts, blaming others, confessing sin, and seeking forgiveness. We were convicted that Jesus mends our broken hearts, though we often take them to numbing substitutes when we lack faith. What a relief to know that when we turn to Him, we are mended and healed.

Capture the thoughts in your heart and pause long enough to share them with Jesus.  Pay attention to how you respond to your trials, and where you go with the furnace gets too hot to handle. Be careful to judge your heart and not the heart of others. Listen to the LORD as He speaks to your own heart and be blessed!

Sample of Week Four Jeremiah Video

In studying the Book of Jeremiah, I see a resounding theme that occurs over and over: God wants His people to open their ears and listen to Him. God’s repetition of this theme tells us He doesn’t want us to miss this point. Melissa Spoelstra, Jeremiah: Daring to Hope in an Unstable World
