Welcome back to online Bible study, we are now on week FIVE of Breaking Free by Beth Moore. We’re hosting small group discussions seven days a week, and enjoying the opportunity to get to know each of you through our mutual journey. Let’s look at this week’s key concepts…
Isaiah 61:1 “He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted.”
The dictionary defines a broken heart as a reference to a state of extreme grief or sorrow, typically caused by the death of a loved one or the ending of a romantic relationship.
As women, we can each reflect back on a time in our lives when our heart was broken. Perhaps it was the disappointment when a relationship didn’t work out or we a profound disappointment from someone you dearly love. This week’s lessons challenged us to see ourselves as God sees us. When dissatisfaction with our life, relationships, or career rears its’ ugly head, we are tempted to try to fill voids in our lives with things, addictions, or excess pushing the love of God to the boundaries of our hearts, thus creating more opportunities to loss sensitivity to sinful areas of our lives.
Revelations 12:10 tells us that Satan is our chief accuser. He works very hard to keep us in bondage. He doesn’t want us to experience liberty in Christ. As we reflect on how to make needed changes in our lives, we can’t go forward without pray.
Pray to forgive those who have hurt you in the past.
Pray to replace negative habits with positive habits.
Pray to live confidently in Christ free from shame.
Pray to see yourself as God sees you.
God sent his son to heal us, to minister to us in the midst of painful experiences. God knew that we would experience heart-ache. He knew there would be shameful experiences in our life’s history.. Being in relationship with Jesus allows us to overcome feelings of shame and guilt. He gives us dignity and respect when we confess our sins and bring what burdens our heart to him.
These thoughts can bring about radical change in our hearts. Will you allow God’s healing power to bind your broken heart?
