In scripture, Jesus gave many examples of how Satan attacks, so I feel comfortable exposing Satan’s recent attempts in a spiritual war against me. Some of you have been following the events through the Bible Cafe chat room or via Twitter. Here are the five events which happened this past month.

  1. I receive a phone call telling me a check is bad and realize I had accidentally pulled out checks from a closed account. The pink checks are printed with the Breast Cancer Awareness symbol and the pattern is identical to my new checks, so it was an easy mistake and I spent many days correcting it. I prayed for financial peace and rebuked Satan for messing with my finances.
  2. My land line phone is accidentally disconnected and when I dial my home phone number, a woman answers. She informs me she has a new phone line and I realize she is receiving my calls. I spend time arguing with my phone company until they finally realize their mistake and send someone to correct the problem. I prayed for peace and rebuked Satan for stealing my lines of communication.
  3. My husband is laid-off from his job without prior notice and he is depressed and angry towards our family. We’ve been through many job losses and I know God will protect and provide, so instead of worrying I spend my time helping my husband adjust emotionally. I prayed for peace in our home and rebuked Satan for messing with my husband.
  4. My computer is a lifeline to my ministry and my business, and it suddenly freezes up and stops working. The man in technical support informs me I need to reset the entire operating system, after backing up the data. I deliver the computer to the repair shop and need to trust the data will not be lost. My ability to communicate effectively is terminated for more than a week. I pray for God to save my data and to restore the computer to full function. I rebuke Satan for slowing down my pace in ministry and at work.
  5. After my mammogram today, the nurse looks at the images and says they’re fine, so I can dress. I’m dressed and have both feet out the door when she calls my name “Christine, you need to come back in. There is a tiny spot, you’d need a magnifying glass to see it, and maybe you moved during the image. I need to take another one.” I knew instantly Satan was again involved, blurring the image and tempting me to worry and fear as I wait for the final results. I rebuke Satan for wanting me to worry and I give thanks to God for loving me so much.

I realize my exposure begins and ends with breast cancer awareness. Going deeper, my real discovery was an awareness of Satan. As Christians, we need to be aware of his schemes and how he attempts to rob us of peace and joy. Satan does not have access to our minds and hearts, however he can influence them. He can cause worry about our finances, cause anger as we enlist others to correct their faults, discourage husbands and wives through job loss, disable our ability to work or minister to others, and place seeds of fear about a medical exam. The enemy does this to expose our weaknesses and to turn our hearts and minds towards Christ. As long as we are members of God’s family and He calls us children…the enemy will continue to expose tiny specks of weakness inside our hearts and minds.

The next time you feel burdened by a spiritual attack, know what it is and rebuke Satan.  The enemy will seek to annoy, distract, deceive and discourage you- and in some cases he just may pounce on you! Question everything ….and filter your thoughts through the Holy Spirit inside you. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Phil 4:7 NIV

Christians are being persecuted. God said we would all be persecuted. Not maybe, but all. My spiritual warfare that I have to deal with is a thorn in my flesh, trauma that I have experieced in my life. Satan continuosly reminds me. And now I have to learn to fight the anger, if there is any, and pray for all involved , even the one that caused the trauma, and ask God to bless them(oo that is difficult), and then move on. Now about things happening like that above to Christine, yeah I have had more than my share of that, and that is difficult for me to understand. My Sunday School teacher told me to pray Psalms and that is what I did when I lost my job of 13 years, lost our home, a child we were working on adopting, my health, two dogs, a cat, my daughter’s schooling, a vehicle, friends, a church family, loved ones going to be with the Lord, materialistic items (of value), my schooling, almost our marriage, and satan did notlet up. I prayed Psalms and had a very dear friend to come and encourage me. That is why I am so keen on encourgement and I am there for her as well. Also the most pthetic was the lies told about us during that time. Satan can not make anybody do anything, but people do things because they are mean, and choose to do so . Ihave learned it is better to deal with true Christians that work for God and not men. WE are living in some periolous times, and Christians are not liked, HELLO ! Jesus said it would be this way. I am dealing with some things in my own home right now , distracting melike crazy, and I am tryingmy darndest to keep my focus on Jesus and overcome, because somebody decided to be a Judas. The Bible says satan entered Judas, now that tells me alot ! We are not loved in this world, if we would just stand with one another. And make that clear ! Everything would change.
I think Christine gave great examples of circumstances that keep us from focusing on Jesus, but He doesn’t expect us to be anything we can’t. I deal with trauma everyday, soiritual warfare of things that have been done to me that maybe I really haven’t forgiven everybody, or haven’t been able to shed the pain, or totaly dealt with it all. But, satan I promise you uses trauma everyday, whether it happened to me or somebody else to attack me, and I truley get off focus immediately. satan starts blaming me! WHen I was entirely the victim. I hate that , and instead of praising Jesus, I get angry all over again. I am listening to Joyce Meyers to combat that, to speak the word, well when you have Fibro and you can’t relaly remember the word all the time and you feel a little crazy like you are talking to the air this is difficult, but I’ll get there. I am dealing with trauma all the way back from childhood, and satan uses that to tear me down and tell me I should hate those people, in which I do not. Actually, I have love in my heart for them, and satan hates that, and often makes it worse on me. Also, how can you love them, easy, Jesus. Jesus, sweetest name on the earth, I battle with trauma with things that people have told me that have happened to them, and sincerly I wish I knew why. Am I angry at someone who did something to them and I haven’t forgiven them, maybe so. I surpress anger sometimes, so who knows but really God. And you know what He understand, I know all this, and I work on all this everyday….. Everyday ! I am having to forgive so many people for so much that has been done and then I deal with fear that I should have felt as a child and supressed. Something that happened about 40 years ago, now I face the fear when I didn’t fear when it happened, I supressed and became as an adult on a battleground instead. ANd these things just keep coming at me, and keep comong at me. And every day a little at a time I deal with trauma. I believe that was Paul’s thorn in his flesh, the trauma that he saw as the CHristians were persecuted and that he was actually a part of, among other things. I wasn’t saved until I was 37, and I have seem much, too much and I am a great friend and a very great listener, therefore, I have a bunch of trauma stories inside. They seep out ever once in awhile. Now I hold trauma of things that have happened and arae happening to children, and you know it is getting worse….

…moderator note: Sorry Paula, your comment was almost 3,000 characters long and doesn’t fit into the comment box. We’ve read your words, prayer and story- thank you for being authentic. Praying God’s blessing over you.

    • Paula Deason says:

That’s alright, you can clear this off if you would like, I get wordy I suppose. God bless you moderator since I do not know your name. I didn’t see the limit. Sorry moderator:(

  • 100PrayingWomen says:

Sending up a crazy praise on your behalf! Spiritual warfare is real. Many would overlook these as coincidences, but the discerning mind is so much more aware of the spiritual activity happening around them. May God use you to continue to make known the “wiles” of the devil to his people. May God protect you, provide for you and your family and guide you continually. We are not ignorant of his devices…

    It is well!

    Jesus is LORD!

    • Christine says:

Not everything is sipritual warfare, yet when we start noticing several things going wrong within a short time frame- we need to examine our hearts and pray for discernment. When we notice “clusters” of unusual things….it’s usually the hand of Satan and his friends.

  • Kim says:

Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your journey with us. Thank for sharing the hard lessons and the life wisdom you’ve gained. Thank you for allowing God to show His magnificent power at work in your life. Your examples in this post are Spirit-fired responses; it puts spiritual warfare into perspective, identifying what it can look like in the day-to-day.

The BIG picture with all of this is that spiritual warfare is real, but God… (Couldn’t we all just stop, start, begin and end right there?)

Can I tell you, since I began my personal study on spiritual warfare by way of Godly People, Spiritual Warfare for Women, The Invisible War (per your recommendation) and the Bible, of course, Satan has been on a mission to utterly break me in so many ways. He’s attacked me left and right, from family to job to my relationships to…(fill in the blank). The battle has been hard, but God has been faithful. Praise Him!

There is power in recognizing and exposing the plots and schemes of the evil one. I go back to Matthew 4 and Ephesians 6 and bind these lessons around my heart and mind. In the name of Jesus, I rebuke Satan! I proclaim the name of the LORD!

    Hugs in Christ,

P.S. May God continue to bless you and yours, fortifying each of you where you stand in need. I celebrate what our Father has done, is doing and will do through this work. Glory to His name! Thank you, Christine, for making the LORD visible to so many. <3

  • Marie says:

Thank you for this! No matter where we are in our spiritual life we need to be reminded of this. The discouragement can and often will remove our focus from the Lord. Praying great things and Gods will for the bible cafe.

    Big hugs

  • mcProdigal says:

I’m learning these lessons along with you.

  • Carin says:

It is so awesome that you are aware of the enemy so that you rebuke him. I find it interesting about the start of breast cancer awareness (start & finish). Do you think that means something?
It is not awesome of things you went through. They are annoying.

I just stopped after reading this and prayed for a hedge of protection around you. I just recently heard a saying that sticks to me. “A new level a new devil”. God must be putting you in something that the enemy doesn’t want you to do. I know I read so many amazing things that are doing for God’s kingdom.

    God is good!

    • Christine Smith says:

Carin, I am in a growth phase with God right now (actually, I hope that never goes away!). Along with this, I was approached by a large ministry interested in supporting the Womens Bible Cafe. Recently God has placed me in a position to be visible to others, so my ministry is extending beyond the limits of technology and I am face to face with more people through my business and my church group. He has placed it on my heart to “be seen, be visible to others, put your feet on the ground.” He has also placed on my heart that a harvest is coming soon. I was warned about the potential for warfare before it happened, and I was advised to keep my heart centered on peace. I’ve kept my heart and mind on God and not on the enemy or myself. A few years back, I would have been strangled by my own worry and self-pity.

      • Carin says:

Wow, that is really really powerful!

That would explain the land line, computer, job loss and things that would makes someone worry.
I am praying now that you will continue to stay focused. These annoyances are very distracting.

Will you be sharing about the large ministry and the Bible cafe? That is super exciting!

Blessing on you and your family!

        • Christine Smith says:

Yes, the large ministry is praying over the Bible Cafe and discussing how they can support us. We should know in about 3 weeks.

  • Jennifer says:

Thanks so much for giving us every day examples to remind us how to ‘WATCH OUT’ so Satan won’t be defeating us in small areas that will GROW.

  • Mary Ann says:

That master of deceit certainly is sharpening his claws on you. I pray that the Almighty will continue to give you the strength, the peace and the knowledge to ward off any additional attacks. Praise God for his protection!

  • Becky M says:

Praying for peace on your family and thanks for the peace you just brought to me . . . worried about a return of cancer.

  • Carla Brooks says:

Thank you Christine for putting this out there for us. I really appreciate it. Keep doing what your doing. You’re making a diffence out there in the world and Satan doesn’t like. No matter what happens don’t give up and don’t give in, because our adversay is already defeated!

I too am praying for covering for you and your family.

    Trust in out Savior.

  • Lisa H says:

Hey special lady … You are blessed! God lets you know that daily. 🙂

We know who wins! And all glory to God for it. But we also know Satan is allowed some manipulation while we wait for the call. Unfortunately there are soooo many who do not recognize his tactics and are pulled further and further down into his pit.

You, on the other hand, are very well aware of his tricks and mockery. AND you allow God to use you to tell others what to look for and to be aware.

You are such a beautiful person, and I KNOW God smiles down on you daily. And that makes Satan mad. Stay diligent. Stay aware. And always let us know when you need prayer. Satan hates it when we pray for each other! We need to keep it up!

Praying for God’s glorious blanket of peace to cover you and your family. May you all feel His loving embrace and sweet kiss on your cheek. 🙂

  • Carol says:

Hi Christine, thank you for being so transparent and honest about what is going on in your life. You been such an inspiration to me and all the other ladies here. Thank you for encouraging and praying for us, too. I will pray for you in the specific areas you have concerns. The Lord Bless and Keep You!

    • Christine Smith says:

Thank you Carol. God has been so good to me I see each event as a blessing to bring me closer to Him. I don’t want to have a pity party, I want to have a PRAISE party to honor the Lord. I’m keeping my heart on Him.

  • Janice Brittain says:

Christine, Thank you for sharing…how can we, as sisters in Christ, pray for each other unless we share our needs. I will continue to pray for you and your family. I heard Carol Kent last Saturday. If you can, read her book….Between a Rock and a Grace Place.

  • Tenderrlee Little says:

This was just what I needed in just moments of needing it. Thank you God for sending your messages to us the way that you do, you are so good all the time. What a feeling of peace I have now. All to His glory.

  • susan says:

Thank you Christine for sharing. I am a fairly new christian and never believed in “The Evil One” .
Now as I know God more and more, i am starting to see the battle, especially as I am the only one that know God in my family.
I have to keep remembering when my family says and does things that seem so .. unloving.. that there is the one prowling and pushing buttons, and forget the lies and remember the TRUTH of our Lord.. the war is won. Remember the truth of my family through Jesus, see them with Jesus eyes, not the liars eyes.
    Thanks again Susanxxx

  • Paula Deason says:

My prayer is that your husband finds a job better than he has ever had before and this will be coming before the holidays, that every door would be opened for him and that nothing can stop the power that God is going to show and also bless your family with, amen.
Father, I am nothing, my prayers hold no power what so ever. I know that the Bible says that if we come in to agreement together that the answer is yes and amen. So therefore, and in agreement with Christine and her husband I pray that doors open for him. I pray peace over her family and the entire situation. I ask Your perfect peace over her home and their family, over emotions and attitudes. God , I know you want us to be patient.. but in this situation please work fast. Thank you for Christine and her sharing and faithfulness. Bless this sister and encourage her. Bless her husband and take authority over there home. Thank you for fixing their line, and I pray that there will be even a blessing from this in Jesus name. AMen . You know her every need, I pray that Father that just like You met the need of the people crossing in to the land of milk and honey, I ask for everything that they need to be supplied in Jesus name. Amen… Father bless anyone that has been unfair to this family and change hearts where there needs to be forgiveness(that they may bot know someone is harboring or why). Father we know how deceitful that satan can be, and that he is. Please protect us from his wicked tongue of deceitful lies.

  • Paula Deason says:

WOW ! that was lovely, very lovely Christine. Just like old Wednesday night testimoney times that helped me to grow spiritually, at the old church. I really need to hear these things.
THe world says so much differently. And I apologetically, unrealizingly, and unfortunatley for me was a part of that world for 37 years, way too long. A slave to Egypt, at the time, taken from Egypt then going through the dessert. Symbolizing what I feel I have gone through actually. Anyway, that was so encouraging and so helpful, please continue to share. I am so glad that it was only a blurr or that God actually healed you and they do not know how to explain that or some just want. Praise God for His watchful eye.

    • Christine says:

Thank you Paula. If we don’t expose him then people wll not know how subtle the enemy can be. One of the best books I’ve ever read on spiritual warfare is called The Invisible War by Chip Ingram.

  • Allison says:

Thank you for sharing your life, your ministry, and your Spiritual knowledge with us. I pray that the onslaught of Satan’s scheming will come to an end and that your husband will find a job so that your family will be restored. I also pray that your business, your ministry, your telephone, your computer and your health will no longer be under attack, as you have many people who look to you for Spiritual guidance. I pray God will bless you and your family as you continue to be a blessing to many. In Jesus’ name, Amen

    • Christine Smith says:

Thank you Allison. God is good and He will guard our hearts and minds. He has blessed us many times and we stand grounded in His promises. No enemy will prevail over us.

  • shuquin sneed says:

I enjoyed this post & I am always saying that its a spiritual war that its not the folks its the spirit of satan that’s in the folks. I am so happy to be a child of God cause its Know other way but His way. I ask God that He allow your husband to receive employment but tell him to thank Him any how. And I ask that He touch your home, finances, & your health as well. In Jesus Name Amen 🙂
